My sister Laura and I are best friends, at least, I consider her my best friend. It’s possible she considers me a pain in the butt. And that’s a valid perspective. I am a pain in the butt. But I like to think that in spite of my annoyingness, she considers me a friend. Anyway, I’m just being annoying now to make up for how mean she was to me when we were kids.
For example. Laura and I used to play house, and I always wanted to be miserable orphans, living in a ramshackle cottage on the edge of town, begging for our bread. And she used to make me so mad when not five minutes into our piteous destitution she would announce that she had been out begging and met a millionaire who was going to adopt us and we were going to be rich and live in a mansion and have pet ponies all our very own. Seriously! Here I was, imagining myself in a nice, filthy, depressing hovel, and she had to go and ruin everything with flouncy dresses and money coming out our eyeballs.
It’s no wonder I used to hide my little glow-bug under my pillow and then pull it out after the lights were off and dance it around and make her cry. She was afraid of things that glow-in-the-dark. Bahahahaha. She drove me to it, I tell you.
In fact, I recently found one of my old diaries, in which I described in great detail in handwriting with little hearts for the dots on the i‘s how Laura had come in and told me it was time for dinner. I believe her exact words were, “Mom says you have to come down for dinner.”
I know, right??? Can you believe how jerky she was? Seriously!
I got back at her by letting some blankets hang off the top bunk of her bed. She was also scared of blankets hanging off the top bunk. Tee-hee-hee.
I was a true martyr as a child, and now, as an adult I feel it is my duty to share what a terrible sister Laura was so that you all know how much she deserves my neurosis and constant emails about acne and toe jam and the contents of the baby’s diaper.
And also so that you know she truly deserves the honor of being featured in the neato button I made for Flashback Friday, while it is living here at Together for Good.
WordPress is kind of silly about things, so I can’t provide you one of those neato boxes where you can cut and paste the button information and it magically appears in your post all linked up here. So you’ll have to right click it, save it, and then upload it to your own blog. And please do, because I spent like half an hour working on it making it super cute, in honor of my sister and her rocking bangs.
If you have never participated in Flashback Friday before, I would like to invite you to do so. It’s just hanging out over here until Jo at Mylestones gets herself all moved and settled. Don’t be shy! Write a post in your blog about a memory you have, and link up. Please be sure to link to the actual post and not just the main front page of your blog. And please give me a link back, because I’m needy and require affirmation. The easiest way to do that is to add a link to the button I made. Did I mention the button? You should totally include the button, just because it’s so fun. Ha!
(If you have any questions about linking up, please ask in the comment section and I will do my best to help you out!)
P.S.– Because WordPress will not allow javascript yada yada yada, I’m pretty sure you will have to click below and it will take you to a separate page with all the links. Sorry. I keep thinking about moving to self-hosted wordpress, but thinking about all the technical requirements makes me break out in hives. Smooches!
